Simone Sav, El presente

y no sé qué llevarle.

THE PRESENT

I have a dilemma:
I set out to buy a present
for the person I hate the most.
And I don’t know what to get her.

What would she fancy, I wonder.
She likes mind games and corrosive slander
But I don’t think they sell these
In the local gift shop.

They say you can never go wrong with a bottle of expensive champagne,
Hmm! Perhaps she’d think I poisoned it,
And end up wasting perfectly aged bubbles
On cleaning greasy drains on its way down.

Those I asked for advice thought it was a joke
or madness. Generosity towards someone who has wronged you
Can easily be mistaken for lack of self-esteem
Or worse, for saintly hypocrisy.

Each year, we make a point of rewarding
Some of those who have shaped our lives.
But we reject or ignore those who made us better
By standing opposite us in hatred or contempt.

I set out to buy a present to my nemesis
And I found it tucked away in a small antique shop.
At first it didn’t call out to me until I looked closer
And saw the portrait of a strong woman.

I set out to buy a present and I did.
I got her a mirror.

Rachida Madani, Primer cuento

Fotografía de Thomas Kakareko
PRIMER CUENTO

I

PREMIER CONTE

I

THE FIRST TALE

I

What city and what night
since it’s night in the city
when a woman and a train-station argue over
the same half of a man who is leaving?
He is young, handsome
he is leaving for a piece of white bread.
She is young, beautiful as a springtime
cluster
trying to flower for the last time
for her man who is leaving.
But the train arrives
but the branch breaks
but suddenly it’s raining in the station
in the midst of spring.
And the train emerges from all directions
It whistles and goes right through the woman
the whole length of her.
Where the woman bleeds, there will never be spring
Again.
in the night, in her head, under the pillow
trains pass filled with men
filled with mud
and they all go through her
the whole length of her.
How many winters will pass, how many snowfalls
before the first bleeding letter
before the first mouthful of white bread?

Yehezkel Rahamim, Hacia mi mismo

Collage de Mariano Peccinetti

HACIA MI MISMO

agua

pedí para que también fluya
en animales
hermosos y fieles y antiguos
y femeninos y bravos

Versión de Tom Maver

POEM IN PRAISE OF MESTRUATION

if there is a river
more beautiful than this
bright as the blood
red edge of the moon if
there is a river
more faithful than this
returning each month
to the same delta if there

is a river
braver than this
coming and coming in a surge
of passion, of pain if there is

a river
more ancient than this
daughter of eve
mother of cain and of abel if there is in

the universe such a river if
there is some where water
more powerful than this wild
water

pray that it flows also
through animals
beautiful and faithful and ancient
and female and brave

PENAS

SORROWS

who would believe them winged
who would believe they could be

beautiful         who would believe
they could fall so in love with mortals

that they would attach themselves
as scars attach and ride the skin

sometimes we hear them in our dreams
rattling their skulls         clicking their bony fingers

envying our crackling hair
our spice filled flesh

they have heard me beseeching
as I whispered into my own

cupped hands       enough not me again
enough       but who can distinguish

one human voice
amid such choruses of desire

Obra de Claudia Tremblay
SALIDA

'provisoriamente' - fastidiosa palabra.
Y ahora a través

EXIT

Just when hope withers, the visa is granted.
The door opens to a street like in the movies,
clean of people, of cats; except it is your street
you are leaving. A visa has been granted,
'provisionally'-a fretful word.
The windows you have closed behind
you are turning pink, doing what they do
every dawn. Here it's gray. The door
to the taxicab waits. This suitcase,
the saddest object in the world.
Well, the world's open. And now through
the windshield the sky begins to blush
as you did when your mother told you
what it took to be a woman in this life.

Agi Mishol, Despedida de los padres (2 versiones)

Ilustración de Eveline Tarunadjaja

15

La ceremonia fue sencilla:
la empleada del ministerio me extendió
tu certificado final. Vos,
Me preguntó si quería actualizar
(así dijo) el certificado de mi padre.
Después los puso uno junto al otro
como dos lápidas gemelas
e hizo sonar un timbre.
Bajé a la calle y seguí caminando
como una niña
pequeña
aferrada a las manos
de padres de papel
susurrantes en el viento

Traducción de Gerardo Lewin

FUE UNA MODESTA CEREMONIA

F
tu certificado final. A ti
