Marie Ponsot, 2 poemas 2

Obra de Walid Ebeid

MAITINES Y ALABANZAS

habiendo perdido el título de libertad absoluta;
lúcida, por una vez, como siempre lo estaré;

MATINS AND LAUDS

Excited as a sophisticated boy at his first
Passion of intellect, aware and fully free
Having lost title to full liberty; struck
Aware, for once, as I would always be;

It day and I still shaken, still sure, see
It is not ring-magic nor the faithing leap of sex
That makes me your woman; marks our free
And separate wills with one intent; sets
My each earlier option at dazzling apex
And at naught; cancels, paid, all debts.
Restless, incautious, I want to talk violence,
Speak wild poems, hush, be still, pray grace
Taken forever; and after, lie long in the dense
Dark of your embrace, asleep between earth and space.

UNO ES UNO

Corazón, matón, gamberro, estoy hundida
tiesa.

¡Piensa! ¡Refórmate! Seamos uno. Únete a nosotros,

ONE IS ONE

Heart, you bully, you punk, I’m wrecked, I’m shocked
stiff. You? you still try to rule the world–though
I’ve got you: identified, starving, locked
in a cage you will not leave alive, no
matter how you hate it, pound its walls,
& thrill its corridors with messages.

Brute. Spy. I trusted you. Now you reel & brawl
in your cell but I’m deaf to your rages,
your greed to go solo, your eloquent
threats of worse things you (knowing me) could do.
You scare me, bragging you’re a double agent

since jailers are prisoners’ prisoners too.
Think! Reform! Make us one. Join the rest of us,
and joy may come, and make its test of us.

Louise Glück, Celinda

Fotografía de Akif Hakan Celebi
CELINDA

MOCK ORANGE

It is not the moon, I tell you.
It is these flowers
lighting the yard.
I hate them.
I hate them as I hate sex,
the man's mouth
sealing my mouth, the man's
paralyzing body
and the cry that always escapes,
the low, humiliating
premise of union
In my mind tonight
I hear the question and pursuing answer
fused in one sound
that mounts and mounts and then
is split into the old selves,
the tired antagonisms. Do you see?
We were made fools of.
And the scent of mock orange
drifts through the window.
How can I rest?
How can I be content
when there is still
that odor in the world?

Gwendolyn Bennett, Odio

Fotografía de Egor Shapovalov

ODIO

Te odiaré
como un dardo de acero cantarín
que rasga el aire tranquilo
del manto de la noche.
O con gesto solemne,
igual que los sobrios pinos
que se yerguen
hacia el cielo.
Odiarte será un juego
para solaz de manos frías
y ágiles dedos.
Tu corazón anhelará
el solitario esplendor
del pino;
mientras las llamas ardientes
de mis ojos
te herirán como raudas flechas.
El recuerdo posará sus manos
sobre tu pecho,
y comprenderás entonces
mi odio.

HATRED

I shall hate you
Like a dart of singing steel
Shot through still air
At even-tide,
Or solemnly
As pines are sober
When they stand etched
Against the sky.
Hating you shall be a game
Played with cool hands
And slim fingers.
Your heart will yearn
For the lonely splendor
Of the pine tree
While rekindled fires
In my eyes
Shall wound you like swift arrows.
Memory will lay its hands
Upon your breast
And you will understand
My hatred.

Louise Glück, Ley no escrita

Obra de Laurie Lipton
LEY NO ESCRITA

Interesante cómo nos enamoramos:
en mi caso por completo, del todo,
y, oh, a menudo,

UNWRITTEN LAW

Interesting how we fall in love:
In my case, absolutely. Absolutely, and, alas, often
so it was in my youth.
And always with rather boyish men
unformed, sullen, or shyly kicking the dead leaves:
in the manner of Balanchine.
Nor did I see them as versions of the same thing.
I, with my inflexible Platonism,
my fierce seeing of only one thing at a time:
I ruled against the indefinite article.
And yet, the mistakes of my youth
made me hopeless, because they repeated themselves,
as is commonly true.
But in you I felt something beyond the archetype
a true expansiveness, a buoyance and love of the earth
utterly alien to my nature. To my credit,
I blessed my good fortune in you.
Blessed it absolutely, in the manner of those years.
And you in your wisdom and cruelty
gradually taught me the meaninglessness of that term.

TREE

It is foolish
to let a young redwood
grow next to a house.

Even in this
one lifetime,
you will have to choose.

That great calm being,
this clutter of soup pots and books—

Already the first branch-tips brush at the window.
Softly, calmly, immensity taps at your life.

DA CAPO

Coge el agotado corazón como un guijarro
y arrójalo lejos.

Ya no queda nada.
Ya la última onda se extingue
en la maleza.

Al volver a casa, corta zanahorias, cebollas, apio.
Dóralos en aceite antes de añadir
lentejas, agua y hierbas.

Come.

Take the used-up heart like a pebble
and throw it far out.

Soon there is nothing left.
Soon the last ripple exhausts itself
in the weeds.

Returning home, slice carrots, onions, celery.
Glaze them in oil before adding
the lentils, water, and herbs.

Then the roasted chestnuts, a little pepper, the salt.
Finish with goat cheese and parsley. Eat.

You may do this, I tell you, it is permitted.
Begin again the story of your life.
