Nabila Lovelace, Paseo de los Veteranos

Obra de Ruben Ireland | Margot

PASEO DE LOS VETERANOS

No soy una mujer
que se entusiasme por
las reliquias militares,
pero me estoy planteando
comprar un arma. De esas
finas como un filete, y aun así
listas para escupir fuego. Y es que
soy una chiquilla sola
y sin compañía. No
tengo un papi que garantice
de noche mi seguridad. No,
solo yo y mi cuchillo más afilado
fumándonos un peta
junto a la ventana;
hay una avenida entera
en memoria de los veteranos
en Tuscaloosa.
La memoria colectiva
es un incordio total.
En mi memoria hay
un camión de mudanzas enorme
que se salta los semáforos
de la avenida:
soy el más grande
sobre este asfalto etílico
y ni el más pequeño
niñito carbonizado
detendrá mi risa maníaca.
Dudo que tenga valor turístico
si estás de visita en un país
que te ha volado el culo
a bombazos. Diosmío. A dónde
voy con mi pipa de juguete. Quién
me creo que soy,
viviendo en un país
que rinde homenaje
a una maquinaria que mata
miles de niños
y luego escribe
Dios bendiga América
en sus matrículas,
lo cual me garantiza
el peor
de los karmas.

VETERANS MEMORIAL DRIVE

I am not a woman
excited by war
relics, though
I am considering
buying a gun. The kind
lean as tenderloin, but still
burst the fire through. I mean,
I am a small girl
in her lonesome. No
guarenteed safety
of my niga at night. No,
just me, and my sharpest knife
smoking an L
near the window sill;
there is an entire boulevard
for a veterans memory
in Tuscaloosa.
Collective memory
is a hell of a snag.
My memory
is a long Uhaul
down Memorial Drive
disobeying traffic
I am the largest
on this paved liquer,
and even the smallest
child burnt does not
stop the maniacal laugh.
I wonder if this is history
when visting a country
that has bombed you out
the wazoo. My God. Where
am I with my 12 guage shotty? Who
am I but afraid
living in a country
that celebrates
a machine that kills
thousands of children
and also prints
God Bless America
on its license plates,
will garner  me
the worst kind
of karma.

Y ENTONCES LLEGA LA TORMENTA

No conozco a nadie ya
que aguante en pie
toda la noche.
Sería divertido
oír que alguien
cansado de verdad
llega andando
sube los escalones
y llama a la puerta.
Ven aquí
a compartir la lluvia
conmigo.

despojarme
del terror, y que la luz
pase a través
de la pintura que adherí
en la ventana,
antes, cuando estaba asustada.

Es genial, realmente genial.
Los árboles sostienen el mundo
y el tiempo
se mueve lento.

Siquiera un cuerpo se desvanece
y escoge un lugar
en cualquier lado donde
me gustaría poner el hocico
y planta un corazón
en el mundo
sin voz.

Llamo a la puerta.
Es ridículo. Oír
el eco de regreso,
protegerme con el brazo

para detener esos putos
trailers, mis pretensiones
de disolverme
en esa dulzura.

AND THEN THE WEATHER ARRIVES

I don’t know no one
anymore who’s
up all night.
Wouldn’t in be fun
to hear someone
really tired
to come walking
up your stairs
and knock on your door.

Come here
and share the rain
with me. You.
Isn’t it wonderful to hear
the universe
shudder. How old it all,
everything
must be.

How slow it goes, steaming
coffee, marvelous morning,
the tiniest hair
on the trees’ arms
coming visible.

I like it better,
no one knows

sweetness, moving your
lips in silence.
Closing your eyes all night.

It’s so much better
disarming myself
from terror, and light
passing through
a painting I stuck.

on a window
earlier, when I was scared.

It’s great, it’s really great.
Trees hold the world
and the weather
moves slow.

Even a body dissolves
and takes a place, incorrectly,
everywhere I would
like to nuzzle,
and plants a heart
in the world
voiceless.

I began knowcking.
Ridivulous. Just to hear
your echo back,
arm against face

Just to stop those fucking
trucks, my thoughts
of vanishing
into that sweetness.

LA CARA

La otra noche
por teléfono
te hablé de
los pies.
Pero la cara
es mucho más
sorprendente.
Será mía
toda mi vida
y te dirá
quién soy.
Con su boca
y ojos.
Expresará
desdén y
placer
con su nariz.
La nariz es
su sexo. Intenta
decidir si le gustás
o no ¡Le gustás!
Y ahora los ojos
pueden demostrarlo.
Los ojos se sienten avergonzados
han sido heridos
y temen poder
ser leídos pero
la cara tiene orgullo
y no va a cerrar
sus ojos   no puede
ser tan obvia.
Que sólo espera.
La boca se desboca:
estás embromando
no puedo creerte! y se tuerce
hacia abajo.
La boca piensa
que sos genial. Ríe
y muestra dientes.
Le gustás a la boca.
La boca te ve
y sonríe. Pero los ojos
han sido heridos y
ahora se apartan
para que no se vean
las lágrimas. Esa humedad delatora.
La boca tiene palabras
tiene inmensas palabras
pero está aprendiendo
a no hablar todo
el tiempo
y sólo observar
un poco.
Y cuando lo
sepa, -¿cómo
podrá saberlo?-
escuchará
con las orejas.
Dejará de escuchar
y de pensar.
Escuchará a
un sinnúmero de
otras bocas.
La orejas son quizá
lo que más cerca está
del corazón como
la nariz
tiene sexo
y los ojos
tienen verdad.
La cara, es
tan buena. Es
como una enorme
lámpara humana
un globo de amor
y aún así es tan
capaz de
crueldad.

Poetry always, always, always is a key piece of democracy.

As things get worse, poetry gets better because it becomes more necessary.

Mira Gonzalez, 3 poemas 3

2 WEEKS AGO I WAS LOOKING FOR DRUGS AT A PARTY

one guy gave me alcohol then diagnosed me with ‘major depressive disorder’
i said ‘i don’t think i have that’ and ‘thank you’
today i stole and drank 3 red bulls
people have gone into cardiac arrest from drinking more than 3 red bulls in a day
thinking about dying makes me feel tiny and calm
i feel mostly uninterested in dying right now
at 2pm i took pain killers and walked to the beach
i touched a crab and a sea urchin and a squishy thing
i think i am going to stop wearing my glasses
things seem better when i can’t see clearly
i want to have an emotion that feels like being slowly punched in the face for 3 years

THIS FRIDAY I WOKE UP AT 2PM

started drinking alcohol at 3pm
at 11pm i went to a party wearing the same clothes i wore on thursday
at 12:30am the guy i lost my virginity to told me he is having a baby
at 1:30am i ate drugs in the bathroom without telling anyone
i don’t know how to maintain relationships
most of the people i’ve had sex with have negative feelings about me now
starving to death during sex is something i would like to do this week
every time i look at my computer
i fight the urge to open a word document and list everything i ate that day
here is what i ate today:
coffee, curry vegetable thing from whole foods, plum
i am most comfortable around people who criticize me because
i feel like anyone who isn’t constantly criticizing me is lying
or expecting me to be something different
seems insane that you need money to do things like
develop a drug addiction, or move across the country
i don’t identify as ‘depressed’ even though i feel depressed
seems unfair that i only get to feel a finite amount of things in my life
lately i have been assuming that dried fruit has more calories than regular fruit
i feel like 400 dead jellyfish in the middle of a freeway

(de i will never be beautiful enough to make us beautiful together, 2013 sorry house,
Traducción: José María Martínez /Tive, 2014)

I JUST NEED YOU TO KNOW EXACTLY WHAT I WANT WITHOUT ME HAVING TO SAY ANYTHING

do you remember that dream I had
where my fingers touched your fingers
and we came to understand that our hands were capable of
expressing complex emotions as seperate entities from our bodies
could you just put your mouth on my mouth next time you talk
I have been trained through operant conditioning
to react negatively to romantic emotional stimulus
now i feel comfort because your brain
is encased in a skull a few miles away from here
I’m sorry
saying words that have positive connotations
will cause catastrophic weather patterns
I am severely delusional and have poor impulse control
it’s fine, I’m good
now look at my face and tell me
that my physical presence in the world
has caused you to experience extreme disequilibrium
are you able to confirm my existence
in a strictly biological sense
wait, no
will you just hold on for one second
i have to hide under my bed for two years
