oscureciéndolos a veces
y silenciosa
que no duerme
porque estamos en vigilia
vigilia del goce
vigilia de amor.
TO LIVE TWICE
Memory is an extra life.
As I lean forward to kiss you
to caress your breasts
I think of the extra life
that awaits me
in your memory
I will live beyond my years
in the foreshortening of your white neck
like the lunar night
one night, in Calella,
in August, 2006,
I will live beyond my years
in your night-woman memory
that from the bed looks out through
the window where a city like a painting
by Richard Estes turns on and turns off the lights
amid the signs for Savings and Loans
the cars and offices
I will live beyond my years
in your memory
of woman who when she loves me she loves herself in my love
and you will remember the down comforter
which covered your nakedness
and the bottle of water that fell as we kissed
and the light of the silent television
that lit our bodies in white
darkening them at times
like bags under the eyes
in the middle of the skin
Memory is an extra life.
As I lean forward to kiss you
I know I live twice
once on this warm autumn night
when I caress your hands
with fingers with thoughts with voice
and the extra life in your memory
where we love
beyond time
amid the illuminated
and silent city
that does not sleep
because we are awake
awake with pleasure
awake with love.
