NO TODOS

Eres indiferente ante la desigualdad,
Te ríes de la violencia machista,
No te bastan las cifras de femicidios,
No te importan los cuerpos mancillados,
No te alcanza nuestro miedo,
No te conmueve nuestro dolor.
Pero te alteras con “nuestras generalizaciones”,
Vociferas “no todos somos iguales”,
Te molesta el reclamo,
Te indigna el pedido de justicia,
Te ofende que contemos nuestras muertas,
Te enfurece la palabra “macho”
escrita con pintalabios
en el pecho de tu caudillo.

TENGO UNA HERIDA ENTRE LAS PIERNAS

Tengo una herida entre las piernas
Una herida que no cierra
Que me sangra
Que palpita
Que destila.

Esta herida es la prueba
Innegable y fehaciente
De mi condición de hembra
En este mundo patriarcal.

Para muchos esta herida
Es sentencia que me dice
Que prohíbe
Que me impide
Que gobierne
Que yo herede
Que yo estudie
Me empodere
Y que yo salga a trabajar.

Para algunos esta herida
Es la marca que me obliga
A aceptar lo que otro diga
Y a dejarme maltratar.
Para otros esta herida
Es el signo que me indica
Que el destino de mi vida
Por naturaleza escrita
Es la maternidad.

Pero pese a lo que digan
Que me impongan
Que me obliguen
Que prohíban,
Este cuerpo
Que me sangra
Que palpita
Que destila
No se puede doblegar.

Obra de Anne Plaisance

SOMOS "PRO-VIDA" TE DICEN

Somos “pro-vida” te dicen
Pero que muera la madre
Si alguien tiene que morir.
Somos “pro-vida” te dicen
Pero que se mueran las mujeres
Que no quieren parir.
Somos “pro-vida” te dicen
Pero que se mueran desangradas
Antes de que puedan decidir.
Somos “pro-vida” te dicen
Pero que se mueran todas
Las que no piensan igual a mí.
Somos “pro-vida” te dicen
Pero las voy a cagar a palos
Si se atreven a exigir derechos aquí.
Somos “pro-vida” te dicen
Pero que la violación no es violencia
Si en la familia o la iglesia
Un hombre tiene ganas de sentir.
Somos “pro-vida” te dicen
Pero no hay que hacer “drama”
Si alguien se antojó de ti.
Somos “pro-vida” te dicen
Pero que termine su embarazo
Que lo venda o lo regale
Su cuerpo no vale para mí.
Somos “pro-vida” te dicen
Pero desde el Senado
Las seguirán viendo morir.

EL RACISMO NOS VUELVE EXTRANJEROS EN NUESTRO PAÍS

Para muchos
Lo más difícil de ser extranjero
Es tener que explicar
Es tener que responder
A la eterna,
La inacabable pregunta,
¿De dónde eres?
¿De dónde sos?
Where are you from?
D'où viens tu?
De onde é?
Da dove vieni?
Woher kommst du?
Pero más difícil
Es ser extranjero
En tu país.
Ser negro es nacer extranjero
Ser negro es ser ajeno
A la tierra que te vio nacer
Ser negro es ser,
Constantemente expulsado
Con el discurso
Con los gestos
Con la mirada.
Desde que la memoria me asiste
Recuerdo,
La incesante pregunta:
¿De dónde eres?
Mi extrañeza ante la interrogante
Pero sobre todo,
La sorpresa
La incredulidad
La burla
La sospecha ante mi respuesta:
De aquí.
La insistencia de mi interlocutor
La repetición de la pregunta
Esta vez,
Esperando ser respondida
Con lo que este desea escuchar:
La afirmación de que no
No soy,
No puedo,
No debo,
Ser de aquí.
Mi respuesta nuevamente:
De aquí
Solo causa decepción
En quien me interpela.
No es suficiente
Mi respuesta no le basta
No le satisface.
Ahora,
El pertinaz cuestionador
Quiere saber de mi familia
De donde son
Cuantos son
Cómo son
Para encontrarle sentido
A lo que para él,
Es un absurdo,
Un despropósito.
Que yo
Al igual que él
Nací aquí,
Que mi piel negra
Al igual
Que la suya blanca
Es también de este país.
El racismo
Nos vuelve extranjeros
En nuestro país:
Yo soy extranjera
Desde que nací.

PARADOJA

Tienes miedo
De nuestros rostros y cuerpos negros
Pero somos nosotros
Quienes morimos

si me preguntás te voy a decir
me pregunta si soy blanca

si me preguntás si soy fluida

YOU KNOW HOW TO SAY ARROZ CON POLLO BUT NOT WHAT YOU ARE

If you ask me if I am fluent in Spanish I will tell you
My Spanish is an itchy phantom limb: reaching for a word and only finding air
My Spanish is my third birthday party: half of it is memory, and the other half is a photograph on the fridge is what my family has told me

If you ask me if I am fluent I I will tell you that
My Spanish is puzzle left in the rain
Too soggy to make its parts fit so that it can look just like the picture on the box.

I will tell you that
My Spanish is possessive adjectives.
It is proper nouns dressed in pearls and bracelets.
It is are you up yet. It is there is a lot to do today
My Spanish is on my resume as a skill.
My Spanish is on a toothbrush in red-mouth marks

If you ask me I will tell you
My Spanish is hungrier than it was before.
My Spanish reaches for words at the top of a shelf without a stepping stool
is hit in the head with all of the old words thats have been hiding up there
My Spanish wonders how bad is it to eat something that’s expired
My Spanish wonders if it has an expiration date
My Spanish asks you why it is always being compared to food
spicy, hot, sizzle
my Spanish tells you it is not something to be eaten
but does not really believe it.
If you ask me if I am fluent in Spanish I will tell you that

My Spanish bites on a pencil in the corner of a classroom and does not raise its hand
My Spanish is my older sister's sore smile at her only beauty pageant
My Spanish is made up story about a parent who never came home
My Spanish is made up story about a parent who never came home and traveled to beautiful places and sent me post cards from all of them
My Spanish is me, tracing my fingers along every letter they were able to fit in
My Spanish is the real story of my parent’s divorce
Chaotic, broken and something I have to choose to remember correctly
My Spanish is wondering when my parents will be American
asking me if I’m white yet

If you ask me if I am fluent in Spanish I will try to tell you the story
of how my parents met in an ESL class
How it was when they trained their mouths to say
I love you in a different language, I hate you with their mouths shut
I will tell you how my father’s accent makes him sound like Zorro
how my mother tried to tie her tongue to a post with an English language leash
I will tell you that the tongue always ran stubbornly back to the language it had always been in love with
Even when she tried to tame it it always turned loose
If you ask me if I am in fluent
I will tell you
My Spanish is understanding that there are stories will always be out of my reach
there are people who will never fit together the way that i want them to
there are letters that will always stay silent
there are some words that will always escape me.

CRECIENDO

2/95; 5/97; 11/98; 2010

Disfruto cuando me escribo
me abro
me leo.
Me gusta escribirme
abrirme
re-escribirme.

GROWING

2/95; 5/97; 11/98; 2010

I enjoy writing me
opening me
reading me.
I misspell a lot, though
and feelings get fuzzy,
so unclear I can’t even read them myself.
Often the dictionary falls short,
gets offended when I scribble Spanish or
make up a bilingual feeling.
I do not care.
I enjoy writing me
feeling the lines
staining my fingers and the bleached paper with ink.
The ink gets to people sometimes.
It is too graphic and real and they rather go to the movies.
But I do not care.
One day there will be una escritora bilingual.
o una dominicana low class
una lesbiana with skirts
o una latina smart
who will enjoy reading me
opening me
re-writing me.

Lydia Camarillo, Mi Reflejo

Obra de Rafael López CastroThe Virgin and La Malinche
MI REFLEJO

Who goes there?
   It is I,

Don't you recognize me?
   You made me your prostitute,
   Me hiciste tu esclava,
   Conquistaste y colonizaste mi gente.
You alienated me from my people.
   Me hiciste la «Vendida».

¿Ya no te ACUERDAS de mí?
   Qué Poca Memoria Tienes,
I have come to pay your dues,
I have come to FREE my people.
      I AM MALINCHE.

Who goes there?
   It is I,

Don't you remember me?
Your chauvinism impedes my inner growth,
   quemaste mis libros,
   you smashed all women's hopes,
   you destroyed my life.

¿Ya no to ACUERDAS de mí?
   I am the scientist:
   the gifted;
   the one with all wisdom,
Yo soy la mujer hermosa.

He venido con Malinche,
I have come to make you pay.
   I have come to LIBERATE my people;
   he oppressed.

Yo soy
SOR JUANA INÉS DE LA CRUZ.

Who goes there?
   It is I,

Don't you recognize me?
   I've stood behind your shadows,
   siglo tras siglo.
He sido prisionera de tus males,
   He llorado por mis hijos,
I have slept on blood-stained sheets,
while my womb longs to give birth.

¿Ya no te ACUERDAS de mí?
Yo soy el fruto de mi gente,
   llena de amor,
   y capaz de matar.
   I am «creation»,
   Vida con Vida,
   Y Arte.

I have come with Malinche and sor Juana.
   He venido a hacerte pagar.
I have come to be part of the INSURRECTION of my people,
   the oppressed.
      I AM FRIEDA KAHLO.

Who goes there?
   It is I,

Don't you know me?
I am the mother of the people.
I am the symbol of fertility,
   pride,
   strength,
   beauty,
   and wisdom.
I am the «SPIRITUAL TRUTH» of my people.
   He venido a traer «luz»
I have come with Malinche, sor Juana, and Frieda.
I have come to guide them to the EMANCIPATION de mis HIJOS.

Yo soy TONANTZÍN,
   la Virgen Morena.
I AM LA VIRGEN DE GUADALUPE.

Who goes there?
   It is I,

Don't you remember me?
Soy la fuerza de mi gente.
   I am the invincible.
   Soy la Revolucionaria.

¿Ya no te ACUERDAS de mí?
   Perhaps you have forgotten,
the outright plunder you have caused.

He venido a Recordarte:
que mis Hijos se mueren de Hambre,
While you sit in a French restaurant
   De lujo.

Have you forgotten,
how many of my people have died unjustly?
Se te ha Olvidado cuántos pintos hay.

QUÉ POCA MEMORIA TIENES,
   YOU,
have exploited and oppressed my people.

But I have come to tell you!
   «¡BASTA!»

Si somos espejos de cada una,
   Soy Malinche,
      Soy la Virgen de Guadalupe,
Soy sor Juana Inés de la Cruz,
             Soy Frieda Kahlo,
                Soy Mujer.

I am the reflection of the oppressed.
   I am half the struggle...
      Y mi compañero la otra.

I have come to knock at your door,
   A Decirte,
      «¡NO MÁS!»

WE ARE THE REVOLUTION!
